Sweet Bertie’s Gourmet Sweet Shop, located in the downtown area, serves a variety of desserts. Craving the popcorn tins of your childhood? Sweet Bertie’s is just the place to go. You’ll find handcrafted, small-batch popcorn in flavors like sweet heat, cheesy cheddar, and caramel. Want to surprise the kids with an after-school treat? Stop by and grab half a dozen fresh-baked double chocolate chip cookies and pick up a few oatmeal raisin pecan for yourself.

For special occasions, consider celebrating with a box of Sweet Bertie’s cupcakes. They come in a variety of flavors, such as red velvet Oreo, peanut butter cup, and apple pie. If you’d like to place a custom order, Sweet Bertie’s makes themed treats for any occasion, including events such as baby showers, birthday parties, weddings, and bridesmaids luncheons. Baraona’s Bakery

Baraona’s Bakery is a family-owned business that has served Bedford and the surrounding areas since 1949. When you visit, you’ll find a huge assortment of sweets made from recipes passed down from generation to generation. Enjoy a variety of cookies, including almond macaroon and the bakery’s specialty seven-layer cookie. Donuts are made fresh daily and feature flavors like glazed, cake, custard, and jelly-filled. If you’d prefer a danish, choose from cheese, cherry, apple, and apricot.

While a variety of desserts are on the menu, Baraona’s specializes in hand-crafted cakes and can create one for almost any occasion. Its signature item is its cassata cake, a traditional Sicilian dessert featuring layers of sponge cake filled with a strawberry-custard blend and topped with whipped-cream icing. For a decadent dessert, take a look a the Italian Ribbon Cake. Inspired by the Italian flag, this cake is hand-crafted with three layers: pistachio, strawberry, and white. Each layer is separated with a raspberry-buttercream filling and frosted with a chocolate-whipped topping.

Baraona’s is open Monday from 7:45 a.m to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s located at 15842 Libby Road in Maple Heights.

Sweetly Shoibhan Pastries & Bubble Tea

Enjoy a range of dessert items and bubble tea at Sweetly Shoibhan Pastries & Bubble Tea. Treat yourself to a piece of sweet potato pound cake, hand-crafted and generously glazed with a caramel and pecan glaze. Prefer a cookie for dessert? Try a fresh-baked coconut macaroon, featuring sweet coconut toasted to a golden brown and covered with a chocolate base for an extra bit of sweetness.

Sweetly Shoibhan’s is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s located at 5524 Turney Road in Garfield Heights.

Cake and Candy Center

If you’re looking for variety, look no further than the Cake and Candy Center. Need birthday party favors? Take a look at the Cake and Candy Center’s cake pops. The Bright Color Cake Pops, perfect for birthday parties, feature yellow, blue, and pink cake pops dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with matching sprinkles. What about a treat for that special someone? Surprise them with a dozen hand-dipped chocolate strawberries. Each berry is individually dipped, drizzled, and boxed, creating a beautiful, tasty treat to enjoy.

In addition to serving dessert, the Cake and Candy Center accepts custom orders and sells candy-making supplies. Mitchell’s Ice Cream

Mitchell’s Ice Cream handcrafts its ice cream in small batches and sources its ingredients from local vendors when possible. If you’re looking for a dessert that’s a little out of the ordinary, Mitchell’s is the place for you. Treat yourself to the black raspberry chocolate chunk which is made with Oregon raspberry ice cream and fair-trade chocolate chunks. Prefer cherries to raspberries? The Bing cherry-chocolate chunk is handcrafted using cherry ice cream, Oregon Bing cherries, and fair-trade dark chocolate. For those craving something a little more traditional, Mitchell’s serves all your childhood favorites, including vanilla bean, rocky road, and strawberry. 

Specialty sundaes featuring a range of toppings are on the menu as well. Choose from toppings such as salted pecans, peanut-butter sauce, and chocolate shavings. Milkshakes, malts, and floats are available, including a vegan shake made with almond milk and your choice of vegan ice cream.
